Hello Sisters,

PROPOSED AGENDA INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2009

The agenda for International Women’s Day 2009 is to bring to the attention of women that the following issues are ones which must be addressed and resolved by the Rudd Government before the 2011 election:

1.  The anti female Family Law Amendment (Shared Parenting Responsibility) Bill 2005

2.  The draconian Welfare to Work legislation due to the impact on mothers and their children

3.  The violation of children’s right of access to a secular public school education system as a result of the School Chaplaincy Program

Since the November 2007 Federal  election sections of the Liberal Party have admitted that the outgoing Federal Government had abused the balance of power in the Senate by passing legislation which went well beyond sensible and acceptable limits.

The lack of acknowledgement of these issues by the Labor Government both before and after the election reminds women once again that legislative justice and equality can never be taken for granted. Women must demand it and fight for it, just as the suffragettes did one hundred years ago.

Other current issues:

                         *   Discrimination against and lack of support for women in sport

                               *   Trafficking of women for sex

We will appreciate your input for publishing on our website http://www.thatpurpleplace.com. This can be done from the Contact Us page. We also invite you to become involved and participate in International Women’s Day on Saturday 8th March 2009.
